Personalities For 2008

Members of the Street Hype Editorial Board have unanimously selected president-elect Barak Obama and Olympic and world records holder, Usain Bolt as the most influential personalities during 2008.
Obama is the first black to be elected president of the United States of America. His term of office as the 44th U.S. president will begin on January 20, 2009.
Usain Bolt, the 22-year old Jamaican sprinter holds the Olympic and world records for the 100 metres at 9.69 seconds, the 200 metres at 19.30 seconds and, along with his teammates, the 4x100 metres relay at 37.10 seconds, all set at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Bolt became the first man to win all three events at a single Olympics since Carl Lewis in 1984, and the first man in history to set world records in all three at a single Olympics.
Lowell Hawthorne, CEO of the family-owned Bronxbased Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill was named the restaurateur of year. What started as a local restaurant aimed at the Caribbean immigrant community has grown to a franchised business with 103 locations in eight states.
Golden Krust has brought the delights of Caribbean cuisine such as jerk chicken and Jamaican-style beef patties to the world of fast food.
Irie Jamboree, headed by Bobby Clarke was cited as the entertainment event of the year, attracting well over 20,000 patrons and some of reggae’s best superstars.
From helping to feed Jamaican athletes at the Penn Relays to donating a $1 million full-service medical ambulance to Jamaica, Vincent HoSang, CEO of Royal Caribbean Bakery and Caribbean Food Delights has been recognized for community services.
HoSang is the largest manufacturer of Jamaican bread, buns, cakes, and pastries. The products are sold at Costco Wholesale, Sam’s Wholesale Club, Wal-Mart, Pathmark, Key Food, Stop & Shop, Met Food, and a wide range of other supermarkets.
The Errol Brown owned Mingles Night Club in the Bronx was listed as the hottest spot for parties and other social events. Party-goers said the ambience, food and the music are ‘off the chain.’
Pauline Fairclough, CEO and master hair stylist at New Beginning Beauty Salon, Bronx has been described as the ‘hair care specialist.’ In the crowded hair care business, New Beginning stands out with quality services in a conducive atmosphere.
The controversial, David "Squeeze" Annakie, CEO of Linkup Media was named most popular media personality. With more than 15 hours of air time on the popular WVIP 93.5 FM radio he has developed a very wide fan base.
